Here’s your chance to soak up the best of Hawaii. Come with us into the heart of North Kohala – the land of old sugar plantations, Hawaiian legends, and awesome natural beauty. Our adventure begins with a beautiful and informative drive through the Kohala countryside, including a fun four-wheel drive adventure to the trailhead. The walk is an easy one-mile trek, where you’ll discover waterfalls, ancient Hawaiian terraces, streamside trails, footbridges, flumes and an expansive coastline view. With easy walking, beautiful country, and a chance for a quick dip in a mountain stream with cascading falls overhead, this adventure is fun for the whole family. On our way back we’ll make a stop at one of Kohala’s famous plantation towns for some shopping and treats.

The Big Island is a microcosm of this phenomenal geologic process. If you are on the Big Island, you simply have to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. If you want to know where to go and what to see, and you want to understand what it’s all about, then hop in one our comfortable vans with one of our famous Naturalist Guides for an adventure that Frommer’s Guide to Hawaii says “may well be the highlight of your vacation.” And, of course, if there is an accessible active flow, we’ll make that a priority.

Saddle up and surrender yourself to the pace and spirit of old Hawaii. Riding a mule is an adventure itself – an adventure that’s easy, fun and guaranteed to take you into a space locals call “Hawaiian Time.” Sure, along the mule trail you’ll take in some of the best panoramas on the island, you’ll cross not one but two streams, you’ll gaze at wonderful waterfalls and inspiring valley views, and you’ll probably become quite fond of your sure-footed chauffeur named Molly or Big Boy or Jake or Daisy. But what our guests tell us they really love about the Mule Adventure are the stories, the expert care, and the Aloha spirit shared by our local-boy Muleskinner Guides. There’s not a better way to slow down, see the land, and talk-story than on the back of a mule.

Enjoy the Beaches
Popular Hapuna Beach is situated about 30 miles north of Kona on the Big Island’s west coast. This white-sand beach has ideal swimming conditions.

Ke‘e Beach, at the north end of Kaua’i, stretches on for miles with an inviting lagoon as the main attraction. Here snorkelers enjoy the plentiful reef fish.

Waihe`e Beach Park on West Maui’s northern shore is a less popular, more remote beach perfect for finding a souvenir of driftwood, smooth colored glass, shells or coral.

Go Ziplining
Zipline tours in Hawaii allow you to more easily see the islands without having to rent an off-roading vehicle or get lost due to poor signage. You will see rainforests, old growth trees, coastal views and waterfalls on your ziplining adventure.

Visit a National Park
The Big Island is home to one of Hawaii’s most historically significant and sacred sites: Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park. Previously the grounds of royal chiefs, the park contains scenic beaches with rocky coasts, a shallow bay with green sea turtles and a sanctuary where those who violated the law of the gods could historically find forgiveness and refuge.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is another must-see on a Hawaiian vacation. Observing volcanoes from the overlooks, exploring lava tubes and driving along Chain of Craters Road are three popular activities in the park.

Find Romance at a Waterfall
With all of the waterfalls on the Hawaiian Islands, it is nearly impossible to visit without seeing one. Rainbow Falls on the Big Island is perhaps the easiest to get to, as it is just steps away from a parking lot. For more remote waterfalls, visit those on Kaua`i, like Hanakapi‘ai Falls in the Hanakapi‘ai Valley. A four-mile round-trip hike on the Kalalau trail takes you across a stream, to a white-sand beach and to a cascading 300-foot waterfall.

Learn a New Water Sport
Water activities abound on the Hawaiian Islands. Surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling and sea kayaking are among the most popular. Maui’s trade winds and gorgeous beaches provide the optimal environment for sailing and kite surfing.

Visit the World’s Tallest Mountain
Not only is Mauna Kea Hawaii’s highest point; it is also the world’s tallest mountain. From the bottom of the ocean floor to its peak, this dormant volcano reaches 33,000 feet, making it taller than Mount Everest. Mauna Kea’s fascinating moonscape and observation towers coupled with the unique experience place Mauna Kea in the list of top 10 things to do in Hawaii.

Tour a Famous Battleship
On the island of Oahu you can learn more about the beginning of World War II. The USS Missouri and the USS Arizona Memorial symbolize the beginning and the end of the USA’s involvement in the war. Tours of “Mighty Mo” are available daily.

Go Hiking
Nature lovers should go straight to Kaua‘i for its renowned hiking trails and backcountry vistas. If you can hike just one place, let it be Koke‘e State Park. Start at Waimea Canyon and end at an 800-foot waterfall with solitude and an exotic rainforest along the way.

Walk the Streets of Honolulu
This scenic city was built on a harbor. Places of historical significance include the Iolani Palace, Washington Place and The Mission Houses.

Take a Scenic Drive
Just drive along the coasts of any of the Hawaiian Islands, stopping at anything that seems interesting to you. One highly rated scenic drive is on Kaua`i. Heading into the Hanalei Valley, motorists must cross a historic bridge to enter the emerald valley. There are no words to describe the beauty that awaits you, but if you want to go there during season make sure to book flights to Hawaii in advance. This is one of the most traveled to destinations in the world, so tickets should be booked way in advance.

Honolulu is a city full of sites that are a joy for tourists. Of course, one can’t visit Hawaii without hitting the beach, so Waikiki Beach is a Honolulu accommodation that can’t be missed! Whether you want to relax, swim in the water or stay in one of its many resorts, it is hard to go wrong there. And while you’re in the area, you can check out more of the state’s beauty at the Waikiki Aquarium, a marine science institution which holds more than 450 species from Hawaii’s amazing ecosystem.

Hamauma Bay is another great beach spot. Formed within a volcanic cone, this bay is home to more than 400 species of fish and is one of Hawaii’s most picturesque scenes. Viewers are required to watch a short film before entering, however, detailing how not to disturb the fragile ecosystem.

But there are other, less obvious sites that you should take an interest in seeing. To the east of Waikiki you can find the Diamond Head, a tuff cone formed from a dormant volcano. It is an excellent attraction for nature lovers who want to take a 90-120 minute hike up the side. This natural wonder if considered one of Hawaii’s most famous symbols.

Another Honolulu accommodation to check out is Aloha Tower. Located at Pier 9 of Honolulu Harbor, this famous lighthouse is ten stories tall and serves as an example of Hawaiian Gothic architecture. Stop by at night for a beautiful sight from this state symbol.

In the mood for a more royal attraction? ‘Iolani Palace may be a good choice. The only royal residence in the United States, this mansion was the home of two Hawaiian monarchs before the islands became an American colony. The 10.6 acre abode is now a museum and, like Aloha Tower, a beautiful demonstration of Hawaiian architecture.

If you’re into shopping, the Ala Moana Center has 87 stores and 4,000 parking places. It also has one of the best amphitheaters in the state and a hub for TheBus, Honolulu’s mass transit service. These attractions and more are waiting for you!
